Milestones

1926 Franklin Ho (He, Lian) returned to China as a professor in statistics at Nankai University. He started the statistics program, trained undergraduates in statistics, and created the Nankai Index.

1958 The discipline of probability and statistics was established at Nankai University by Wang Zikun and Hu Guoding.

1981 The doctoral program in probability and statistics launched at Nankai University (among the first in China).

1983 Nankai University enrolled the first undergraduates in mathematical statistics in China.

1988 Probability and statistics was rated as a national second-tier key discipline.

1990 The School began to recruit Ph.D. students in mathematical statistics.

1999 The Department of Statistics was established by the School of Mathematical Science.

2002 Probability and statistics was rated as a national second-tier key discipline.

2007 Probability and statistics was rated as a national second-tier key discipline.

2010 Master in Applied Statistics (MAS) was approved (among first in China)

2011 Statistics became a first-tier discipline. Nankai University launched the doctoral program in statistics

2012 Statistics at Nankai University ranked fourth in the third National Discipline Ranking. In the same year, the postgraduate program in statistics was launched at Nankai University (Among first in China).

2013 The Institute of Statistics was established.

2015 Master in Applied Statistics (MAS) at Nankai University ranked fourth in the National Ranking.

2017 Statistics at Nankai University ranked the third (A) in the fourth National Discipline Ranking, and entered the national first-level discipline program.

2018 School of Statistics and Data Sciences was established and enrolled the first undergraduates in data science and big data.

2019 Undergraduates in statistics, data science and big data technology were enrolled nationwide.

2020 The undergraduate program in statistics entered the national First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Project

2022 Statistics at Nankai University enters the second-round national first-level discipline program.
